NEW AT BURMS - 3D PRINTING MATERIALS FROM MECHNANO
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
📕 The story of Mechnano:
Founded by Scott Gillette and Steven Lowder, Mechnano is an Arizona-based startup of scientists and entrepreneurs who have applied their patented CNT technology to AM polymers over the past few years. The company is the first to manufacture parts with CNTs using material jetting and Vat photopolymerization systems. This has resulted in improvements in impact strength, tear strength, tensile strength, and ESD compliance.
Mechnano's technology is based on more than a decade of research and development, as well as over 120 granted and pending patents. The company is dedicated to the exponential improvement of AM materials and demonstrating the real-world benefits of CNTs across a wide range of material properties and additive manufacturing processes.
❓ What exactly are ESD materials?
Static electricity is generated by the accumulation of an electrical charge on the surface of an object. Electrostatic discharge occurs when two surfaces touch and electrons are transferred from one object to another. ESD materials prevent discharge upon contact by directing charges across their surface or volume to ground. They are specifically formulated to minimize the risk of flames or explosions while protecting miniature electronic components.
〽 Examples of applications for ESD materials:
Electronic enclosures
Electrical connections
• Printed circuit board carrier
• Soldering equipment
Masks for compliant coatings
ESD hand tools
❗ Advantages of ESD:
• Isotropic and precise surface and volume resistivity
• Excellent surface quality
• High manufacturing tolerances
No abrasion of carbon particles
Advantages of manufacturing ESD components using AM (Additive Manufacturing):
• Freedom of design,
• Reduced costs and shorter lead times for NPD cycles
• More cost-effective and faster production runs
